With over 30 years of combined fitness experience across the full spectrum of training styles, the Barfix team believe calisthenics (bodyweight training) is the most effective and efficient way to transform your physique. It is also safer than other training methods since the human body is specifically designed to handle its own weight. With proper form, joints experience less stress than if one were to lift weights. Therefore, calisthenics training lends itself to a lifetime of effective training. There is also no need to pay for a gym membership or expensive equipment. There is no need to waste time commuting to a gym or waiting in line for equipment. In short, you will save a ton of time and money while getting quick results in the physiologically healthiest manner possible with calisthenics.
Structuring a workout routine that makes sense, especially for those who are newcomers, is not the easiest task. Additionally, newcomers may be overwhelmed by figuring out how to progressively overload through the correct exercise regressions and progressions. This is the main drawback of calisthenics, as it comes with a steeper learning curve. This is where Barfix steps in to help you overcome all barriers to training calisthenics as effectively as possible.
Barfix completely removes the learning curve barrier so that becoming a calisthenics athlete could not be easier. You will attain all the benefits of calisthenics training without any of the drawbacks! With Barfix, you can jump straight into a workout and start learning as you go with easily digestible exercise tutorials that cut through all the noise. Our programs incorporate time-saving antagonistic training and have been meticulously designed and tested by our team of experienced calisthenics athletes over the years to deliver the most efficient path from A to Z. We are confident that Barfix delivers the best calisthenics training experience on the market given our no-compromise UX standards and intuitive workout flow.
The Barfix programs are intended for all ages. Calisthenics is ultimately the fountain of youth, so as long as you can move your body, you can do our workouts! Calisthenics is also safe for children of all ages, though we would recommend adult supervision of minors.
Yes! The Barfix programs are designed for all fitness levels. There are many ways to regress exercises to make them easier, all of which are covered in the tutorial videos. Resistance bands are a very useful regression tool we would recommend for beginners. If you have zero fitness ability, do not fret, as we got you covered there as well! The Bodyweight Foundations program will ease you into calisthenics with the aim of getting you your first push up, pull up and dip.
The only equipment you will need is a pull-up bar. Resistance bands are recommended, but optional. They are a useful tool for beginners to regress exercises, and they also come in handy for more advanced calisthenics training. So investing in resistance bands will not be a waste for those seeking a long term pursuit of the craft.
Anywhere! That's the beauty. You can take Barfix into the gym with you and do our workouts there if you like, but you can also do them at home, in a park, by the beach, or anywhere you have access to a pull-up bar.
Yes! You will build a similar amount of muscle mass as you would through weight lifting. Ultimately, our muscles do not care how they get stimulated. As long as our muscles are placed under external stress with sufficient intensity and volume they will grow. The key is progressive overload. While weight lifters progressively overload by increasing the weight, calisthenics athletes achieve this through progressions that increase the leverage of the exercise to make them harder. We integrate these progressions into our programs and explain them in the tutorial videos so the hard work is done for you. A major benefit of calisthenics is that the compound nature of the exercises recruit many secondary muscles which fosters balanced global muscle growth.
Yes, you will get absolutely shredded with Barfix! There is no better way to burn fat than by building muscle, as this will increase your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR). Our bodies need to consume energy to maintain muscle mass, so the more muscle you have, the more calories you burn (at rest). In addition, Excess Post-exercise Oxygen Consumption (EPOC), aka the after-burn effect, is the increased post workout rate of oxygen intake needed to help repair your muscles and recover. Due to the focus on strength training, the compound movements of calisthenics, and the High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) elements in our programs, you will burn more calories during the workout itself and from the EPOC effect than you will with your average workout.
You do not need any supplements. With a healthy diet, you should be able to get all the nutrition you need to achieve results.
Challenges are a premium feature where you can record your max reps and hold times for a number of staple calisthenics exercises. Donβt ever again forget your push up max record reps! You can log as many entries as you want, whenever you want, so you can track your progress over time and view your key metrics. The Bodyweight Novice and Pro programs have a challenge day integrated at the midway point and at the end which feeds into this feature.
The workouts take 30-45mins on average.
Yes! Strength training is a marathon and not a sprint. You will continue to grow and develop on subsequent runs through our programs. We recommend taking a rest week to deload between programs to allow your nervous system, tendons, and ligaments to recover as they take longer than muscles to regenerate. This will minimize the risk of central nervous system fatigue and repetitive strain injury. During the deload week we would recommend mobility work and light exercise mixed in with a few days of active rest. Active rest means no activity other than walking, light stretching, and foam rolling.
We would not recommend additional strength training on top of our programs as you may end up overtraining, which is counterproductive. This would be a classic case of less is more. Remember, resting is just as important as the training itself. If you would like to do some ancillary work along with our programs, such as handstand practice, for example, that should not be an issue.
